Bob Dernehl Founder

Head of North Georgia Operations

Bob Dernehl, Founder of Dernehl Company

The Dernehl Company was started by Bob Dernehl in 1972. As a perceptive and talented young builder, Bob sought a better climate than his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and made his way south to Atlanta, Georgia.

Since moving to Atlanta, Bob has made Georgia his home, and the Dernehl Company his business. Under his sure hand, the company has prospered. In the last forty years, Bob and his crew have built more than 75 custom luxury homes in Atlanta, remodeled hundreds more, and renovated many of Atlanta’s landmarks and historic buildings. Bob’s personal commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction is the cornerstone of the company. By treating each customer with the respect and attention that he would give to his own family, Bob has made certain that the Dernehl Company has nothing but satisfied customers.

Brody Dernehl Partner

Head of Atlanta Operations

The Dernehl Company is proud to be expanding throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area and beyond with Brody Dernehl at its helm. Bob's only son, Brody began working in construction at a very young age. His father used to let him work at job sites, sweeping the site and completing simple tasks.

While still in school, Brody spent his summers working on construction sites full-time, beginning as a materials runner. From there, he began working as a carpenter, driving heavy equipment, and, many homes later, started managing jobs for his father. With nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Brody currently manages large construction sites for luxury estates and mega homes in the Atlanta area and the mountains of Northern Georgia.

After living in California for five years, (where he became a licensed contractor and focused on high-end remodels and commercial build-outs) he returned home to Atlanta in 2012, where he continued to manage projects across the US. With the birth of his daughter in 2015, he decided to narrow his focus to the Atlanta area. He has completely elevated and upgraded the administrative level of The Dernehl Company, resulting in the ability of the company to take on larger and larger luxury estates and projects.

John Bendik Lead Supervisor

The Godfather of Construction

When I was little, I had asthma pretty bad, so for amusement I drew plans (and sometimes for my Dad, who was a home-improvement weekend-warrior). I grew out of a lot of my allergies by age 12, and because our home was next to the woods being torn down to extend the subdivision we lived in, I switched to planning & building forts. Forts in trees, forts underground, forts in dry manholes, some with confiscated furniture, and even one with electricity (until my Dad tracked his 2,500 feet of extension cords & romex to it).

John Bendik, Lead Supervisor

He then decided he might as well take advantage of my urge to build, and he had me wheelbarrow, shovel, lift, and carry job site stuff. By 14, I was looking like a 16 year old body-builder, which is when he promoted me and let me mix, pour, place & finish any concrete projects he had...until Dominic (his competition) hired me after I graduated high school. Working for Dominic was all fun; he had me drive his equipment & dump trucks, and would send me out to run my own jobs until I quit to build houses with Gap (Geppetto, the Portuguese builder Dominic did concrete work for).

I did try college, technical school & design school, but I was so itchy to learn by the more physical, hands-on method of being on a job site that I never lasted very long in a classroom. In the 47 years between high school & now, I’ve built docks, 22 story buildings, a hospital, added 2nd floors, rebuild burned-out apartments in Manhattan into luxury condos, raised a vacation home on an island in Maine, and built & re-modeled commercial & residential structures across the country. I’ve been licensed in New York, Florida & Georgia. I’ve always read prolifically, and learn via self-teaching and on-demand. I’ve spent my life merging men & resources into tight-knit teams to create custom construction projects, and I still love doing it.
